A Veeam Case Study
Northumberland County Council, one of England’s largest local authorities serving 316,000 residents and over 6,400 staff, relies on Microsoft 365 as the backbone of its e‑government services. Facing rising data volumes and growing cyberthreats, the council was concerned about downtime and data loss—its teams previously depended on Microsoft’s native protections, which left gaps, slow recoveries (searches through terabytes could take up to two hours) and the risk of permanent deletion after 30 days.
The council deployed Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 on AWS, backing up OneDrive, Teams and SharePoint nightly with two on‑site copies and a third off‑site, protecting over 20 TB of data. Working closely with Veeam and AWS, the implementation delivered 99% faster file recovery, eliminated unplanned Microsoft 365 downtime, improved availability for public services and enabled efficient data reuse for testing.
