NHS Trust Improves Mental Health Services by Deploying Veeam Intelligent Data Management

Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust (NSFT), which provides mental health and learning disability services to over 55,000 patients, faced unreliable backups that threatened service availability and GDPR compliance. The legacy system required daily engineer intervention, slowed systems during backups and put clinician access to patient records—and initiatives like electronic prescribing—at risk.

NSFT deployed Veeam Availability Suite to replicate virtual machines, run a second, reliable backup and support disaster recovery, enabling automation and simpler checks. Backups now complete overnight in a couple of hours, IT time spent on backups fell from half a day to ten minutes, and the Trust improved data availability, patient safety and staff confidence while freeing IT to focus on resilience and new digital services.
