The National Bank of Abu Dhabi (NBAD), a major UAE bank with 120 branches, 580 ATMs and more than 50 international locations, needed to guarantee 24x7 uptime and rapid data availability for ~1,280 VMs across ~200 VMware hosts. Its legacy backup tool produced slow, unreliable recoveries (45–60 minutes), caused uncontrollable snapshots that impacted production, required manual VM additions to backup jobs, and lacked Linux file‑level restore capabilities—putting business continuity objectives at risk.

NBAD deployed Veeam Backup & Replication to enable automated recovery verification (SureBackup/SureReplica), agentless backups, Instant VM Recovery and built‑in deduplication/compression. Veeam protects 40 TB across 1,280 VMs to EMC Data Domain, performs onsite backups and DR replication, and automatically includes new VMs in jobs. The bank now meets RTPO requirements, with backups five times faster and recoveries ten times faster (VMs can be restored in as little as two minutes), while reducing backup storage by about 25% and improving overall resiliency.
