Drake Software, a maker of tax‑preparation software that also files millions of returns annually, faced a backup and recovery problem: Microsoft Exchange ran on a physical server that could only be backed up once a week and required full‑day restores, placing heavy strain on the small IT team and limiting their ability to quickly recover mailboxes and items.
To fix this, Drake virtualized Exchange and deployed Veeam Backup & Replication on its Cisco UCS platform to protect 170 VMs. Veeam’s agentless backups, built‑in deduplication/compression and Veeam Explorer for Exchange enabled daily backups and granular recoveries in minutes, reduced storage needs, simplified management from a single console, and provided verification and testing capabilities through Virtual Lab—delivering faster, easier, and more reliable backup and recovery across the environment.
