MegaFon gets unified physical and virtual systems monitoring with HP and Veeam

MegaFon, one of Russia’s leading mobile operators serving over 6 million subscribers across all 83 federal subjects, had rapidly virtualized its datacenter (about 40 VMs by 2009 with plans to grow) using VMware to cut costs and improve availability. That shift created a monitoring gap: HP Operations Manager tracked physical servers but HP agents inside VMs couldn’t see VMware-specific metrics (vCenter events, CPU ready time, ballooning, swap), and MegaFon did not want a separate monitoring tool.

MegaFon deployed the Veeam nworks Smart Plug-in for VMware, which integrates VMware metrics into HP Operations Manager via the VI API without in-guest/host agents, includes out-of-the-box policies, service maps and reporting, and was quick to deploy. The result was unified monitoring of physical and virtual systems from a single console, higher infrastructure reliability and utilization, reduced hardware and maintenance costs, and faster service deployment.
