Mazda Zoom-Zooms With Virtual Machine Backups in Half the Time

Mazda North American Operations, which supports sales, marketing and service for nearly 900 dealerships across North America, set a “virtualize first” strategy to improve IT efficiency and cut costs. After virtualizing about 80% of its environment, conventional agent-based backups created long backup windows and I/O strain, so the IT team sought a virtualization-specific solution that delivered speed, database consistency, flexible restore options, replication and storage-agnostic deduplication.

The team selected Veeam Backup & Replication, which halved backup windows (an SAP full backup dropped from 16 to 8 hours), enabled fast incremental backups with no user impact, and provided VSS-based database-consistent snapshots and multiple restore scenarios. Veeam’s built-in replication supports future colocation DR plans, and its data deduplication and storage flexibility have delivered measurable operating-cost savings.
