Marfrig deploys Veeam to minimize plant downtime and avoid revenue losses of up to USD 35,000 per hour

Marfrig, a global leader in beef and hamburger production with over 30,000 employees and 31 production units, faced a critical challenge: its aging data protection tools could not reliably back up and restore systems across Brazil’s distributed sites and variable network links. With production running 24/7 and an estimated USD 35,000 in lost revenue per hour of downtime at a key unit, the company launched an IT modernization program to ensure continuous access to ERP, databases and other business-critical systems.

Marfrig selected Veeam Availability Suite (deployed by partner BS4IT), upgraded backup repositories to SSDs and used Veeam WAN Accelerator and replication to overcome bandwidth issues. The environment now protects 150 physical servers, ~600 VMs and 1.4 PB of data; full backups dropped from 18 hours to 2.5 hours, critical ERP systems are backed up every 15 minutes, and simulated recoveries take ~40 minutes versus 4–5 hours previously. Built-in immutability and encryption improved cyber-resilience, enabled a zero-downtime data center move, and the rollout is now expanding to other countries.
