London Drugs, a major Canadian drugstore retailer serving over 45 million customers across more than 75 stores, faced a critical IT challenge: keeping pharmacy, point-of-sale and other store systems highly available so locations could remain open and serve customers. Virtualization reduced some risk, but the company needed a reliable way to spin up virtual machines quickly after failures and replace a legacy backup that could not restore full servers without lengthy rebuilds.
