A Veeam Case Study
Wingecarribee Shire Council, the local government authority for the Southern Highlands of NSW, had virtualised its environment on VMware vSphere but struggled with slow, unreliable VM backups for about 50 Windows VMs. The council’s physical backup tool was agent-heavy, costly and required excessive hands‑on management, leaving the IT team spending hours each day just to monitor and maintain backups.
The council deployed Veeam Backup & Replication™, an agentless solution that sped backups by 50% and recoveries by 90%, saved the team about 10 hours per week (500+ hours/year) and cut backup costs by roughly 50%. Veeam enabled near‑continuous data protection and minute‑level RPOs/RTOs through features like Instant VM and file‑level recovery and Explorer for Exchange, and the cost savings were reinvested to strengthen the council’s DR infrastructure.
