A Veeam Case Study
Leipzig University Hospital (UKL) is a maximum‑care medical center in Germany with 1,450 beds, roughly 60 clinics and more than 1,200 virtual machines running across two redundant VMware vSphere data centers. As digital clinical services and data volumes grew, the hospital’s legacy backup solution increasingly failed to complete jobs within the maintenance window and restorations took hours, putting 24/7 availability of critical clinical systems at risk.
UKL implemented Veeam Data Platform, deploying scale‑out backup repositories on Fujitsu PRIMERGY servers. Backups now run more than twice as fast—cutting the backup window from over 14 hours to under 7—and protect 1,200 VMs plus 50 TB of NAS data. Instant VM Recovery and Veeam Explorer enable minutes‑level VM and object restores, the system scales easily as workloads grow, and the team plans to add immutable repositories for stronger ransomware protection.
