A Veeam Case Study
KDDI, Japan’s leading telecommunications carrier, operates a company-wide private cloud (CKKB) that supports 200+ internal services, including critical systems such as au PAY. When VMware’s native backup tool reached end of support, KDDI needed a modern, standardized backup solution that would secure its cloud, reduce operational complexity and be reusable for the corporate cloud services it offers customers.
KDDI deployed Veeam Backup & Replication to protect roughly 200 VMs and unify backups across IaaS and HaaS, taking advantage of VMware vSAN integration, rich APIs and flexible licensing. The solution cut operational load, enabled self-service multi-tenancy and immutable/off-site protection aligned with the 3‑2‑1‑1‑0 best practice, and has been expanded to new customer services (including Microsoft 365 backups) with plans to extend coverage to Kubernetes and edge use cases.
