Hospital Group Prescribes Veeam for Better Backup, Recovery, VMware and Backup Management

Hirslanden Private Hospital Group, Switzerland’s largest private hospital network with 14 hospitals, 1,600 physicians and 7,200 employees, struggled with slow, unreliable backups and poor visibility across its four datacentres and nearly 700 VMware VMs. Legacy backup tools took 42–72 hours to complete jobs and could require a day to recover VMs, while limited monitoring made it hard to pinpoint whether performance issues were in the physical layer, the VM, or the application.

Hirslanden deployed Veeam Backup & Replication and Veeam Management Pack for VMware, cutting backup windows from 42 to 7 hours and from 72 to 4 hours, and reducing multi-VM recovery from a day to about an hour. The solution also enabled fast granular Exchange restores, delegated 1‑click restores for frontline staff, and unified VMware and backup monitoring in SCOM for better reporting, capacity planning and faster issue resolution.
