Case Study: Tontec achieves rapid ransomware recovery and improved resilience with Veeam

A Veeam Case Study

Preview of the Tontec Case Study

Hong Kong manufacturer Tontec International taps Veeam to recover from ransomware and boost resilience in face of business disruption

Tontec International, a Hong Kong–based, family-owned manufacturer of plastic injection molds with global operations, faced a major IT challenge after a January 2021 ransomware attack disrupted primary servers, backups and Microsoft 365 accounts during a holiday. Although staff recovered much of the data from USB copies and a temporary Veeam installation (about 70–80%), the incident exposed gaps in cloud data protection and prompted a broader IT modernization to boost resilience.

Tontec deployed Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 and Veeam Availability Suite to replicate and store backups off-site across its main Hong Kong data center and regional DR sites. The solution now protects ~900 Microsoft 365 users (≈18 TB) and about 80 TB of core systems, automates weekly full and daily incremental backups, reduces manual effort and errors, and shortened Exchange restore times from 4–5 hours to 1–2 hours—delivering faster RTOs and stronger protection against future disruptions.
