Halton Borough Council supports vulnerable citizens with Veeam Intelligent Data Management

Halton Borough Council, which serves about 130,000 residents across Cheshire, faced growing pressure as a 2,000‑desktop virtualization and an increasing number of applications and updates created rapid data growth. Backups had become unreliable and labour‑intensive—one of seven staff worked full time on backups—putting critical services for vulnerable citizens at risk and raising GDPR compliance concerns.

In September 2018 the council implemented Veeam Backup & Replication to simplify and automate backups and restores. The change reduced backup effort from five days to two days per week (saving about 156 working days and over £12,000 annually), improved recoverability with Veeam DataLabs staged restore, freed IT resources for digital initiatives, and restored confidence that essential council services remain available.
