FNZC protects critical business data from nature’s challenges with Veeam and HPE

First New Zealand Capital (FNZC), a medium-sized financial services firm with an enterprise-grade IT environment and 98% virtualization, faced a critical data-protection challenge. Situated in earthquake-prone New Zealand and handling about 10 TB of monthly backups, FNZC relied on a legacy storage and tape-based backup system that was slow, unreliable and risked regulatory non‑compliance — backups and restores could take days, leaving the business exposed.

FNZC implemented Veeam Backup & Replication with HPE 3PAR StoreServ and HPE StoreOnce (StoreOnce Catalyst), achieving seamless integration, lower network use and far faster backup performance. Results included average backup times falling from days to 1.5–2.5 hours (over 96% time saved), improved RPO/RTO, three secure copies (local, offsite, tape), simpler management and more reliable data availability in the event of a catastrophic failure.
