File-Level Restore Speed Increases by 97 Percent at Midwest’s Largest Brewery

Boulevard Brewing Company, the largest specialty brewer in the Midwest, had largely virtualized its IT—consolidating 45 virtual servers onto three Dell PowerEdge R710s—but its legacy, tape-based backup solution didn’t integrate well with VMware. The IT team needed an intuitive, VMware-aware backup and recovery tool that would speed restores and reduce storage overhead.

They deployed Veeam Backup & Replication, a product built specifically for VMware. File-level restores dropped from as much as 30 minutes to about one minute (a 97% improvement), full VM restores are expected to fall from up to eight hours to under 30 minutes (roughly a 94–96% reduction), and Veeam’s block-level de-duplication cut backup storage requirements and associated costs.
