FGC Takes Express Train to VM Backup and Recovery

Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC), which operates regional and commuter rail services in Catalonia, supports about 1,500 users across two datacenters and roughly 135 virtual machines running critical apps like SAP, Oracle, Exchange and SQL Server. The IT team’s VM backups were slow and unreliable, with full VM restores taking up to eight hours, so they needed fast VM- and file-level recovery, built-in deduplication to save storage, and high-speed replication for disaster recovery.

FGC chose Veeam Backup & Replication and saw immediate improvements: backups became faster and more reliable (allowing daily backups instead of staggered runs), backup storage was cut by about half through compression and deduplication, and restores that once took hours can now be done in a fraction of the time.
