Falkirk Council standardizes data protection and reduces cybersecurity risks with Veeam

Falkirk Council, the local government serving roughly 160,000 residents in central Scotland, needed to standardize data protection as part of a cloud-first digital transformation that included Microsoft 365 and a large physical-to-virtual data center migration. Their legacy backup solution couldn’t meet requirements for Microsoft 365 protection, hardware agnosticism, immutability or GDPR compliance, putting critical resident data and council services at risk.

The council deployed Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 and Veeam Backup & Replication to protect 225 TB of M365 data and about 70 TB across 200 virtual and 400 physical machines, tiering backups to cloud object storage for immutability. The Veeam solution enabled the P2V migration, accelerated recovery of historical data, increased ransomware resilience, and standardized data protection across the hybrid environment while supporting GDPR compliance.
