Catholic College Mitigates Risk and Standardises Disaster Recovery with Veeam for Future Scalability

John XXIII College in Perth, a Catholic school serving about 1,550 students and 200 staff, needed to ensure 24/7 availability for learning, administration and alumni services across a mixed virtual environment (25 VMs, 20 virtual desktops, ~5TB). Their legacy, fragmented backup setup created complexity, risk and slow recoveries, so the ICT team sought an easy-to-manage, scalable disaster recovery and compliance solution for both on‑prem and cloud data.

The college deployed Veeam Backup Essentials on a Dell PowerEdge R430 with weekly replication to Dell EMC Data Domain and Veeam ONE monitoring. Consolidating DR under Veeam halved RTOs from 4 to 2 hours, reduced daily DR health-check time from 2 hours to 20 minutes (~83% time saving), enabled rapid restores (20-minute recovery example), standardized recovery across the organisation and freed staff to focus on other priorities while preparing for cloud-based archival and long‑term retention.
