Canon Europe zooms in on Veeam for ransomware protection

Canon Europe, the EMEA arm of imaging leader Canon, needed to modernize protection for critical systems like Active Directory, SQL and application servers as its legacy VMware vSphere Data Protection reached end-of-life. With priorities of simplification, centralization, cloud migration and cost optimization — and facing ongoing ransomware risk — the IT team sought a scalable, hardware-agnostic backup solution that would ensure business continuity and regulatory compliance.

Canon deployed Veeam Availability Suite on Lenovo ThinkSystem SR630 servers in a VMware SDDC to back up 150 TB across 500 VMs and 100 physical machines, replacing VDP and Commvault. Veeam delivers immutable, air-gapped backups (using S3 object lock), staged and secure restores (DataLabs Staged/Secure Restore), ransomware detection and Continuous Data Protection for critical workloads, resulting in stronger ransomware protection, faster recoveries and improved GDPR compliance.
