Canadian School Division Decreases Backup Storage Costs by $50,000 Per Year

Prairie South School Division, which operates 40 schools and serves about 7,000 students across south‑central Saskatchewan, needed a more intuitive VMware backup solution to support its largely virtualized environment, shorten lengthy backup windows, and reduce limited-budget storage costs. Existing solutions were slow, unreliable, and consumed excessive backup storage, often causing overnight backups to spill into the school day and impact users.

The division deployed Veeam Backup & Replication (via Epic Information Solutions), finding it easy to install and backed by responsive support. Backups at each school dropped from 6–12 hours to 30–60 minutes and the data center window fell from 12 hours to 2 hours (a ~93% speed improvement), while built‑in deduplication cut storage needs and saved the division approximately $50,000 per year.
