California Dairies, Inc. deploys Veeam to protect Microsoft 365 data and mitigate cyberattacks

California Dairies, Inc. (CDI), a farmer-owned cooperative that processes nearly 17 billion pounds of milk annually from 300+ family farms, needed reliable protection for the data that supports milk collection, processing and farmer payments. Legacy tape-based backups and early virtualization gaps left CDI exposed; two major outages — a catastrophic Exchange failure and a custom payments app crash — showed the business risk of inadequate recovery and drove a move to cloud-aware backups.

CDI implemented Veeam Availability Suite and Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365, protecting 72 TB across 240 VMs and 14 TB of M365 data to on-premises ExaGrid with replication to a DR site and immutable copies in Amazon S3/Azure Blob. Using Veeam features like SureBackup/SureReplica, Instant VM Recovery and DataLabs, CDI sped recovery, verified DR readiness, bolstered ransomware resilience, maintained business continuity (keeping production and farmer payments on track) and simplified cybersecurity insurance requirements.
