Case Study: Civista Bank achieves high availability and rapid recovery with Veeam Backup Essentials

A Veeam Case Study

Preview of the Civista Bank Case Study

Bank Invests in High Availability with Veeam, NetApp and Cisco

Civista Bank, a Sandusky, Ohio–based subsidiary of Civista Bancshares with about $1.3 billion in assets, faced limited recovery points, slow restores and an aging storage platform that undermined high availability and made FFIEC compliance testing lengthy and difficult. Their legacy backup tool only ran infrequent full backups, forcing weekly or monthly schedules that left the IT team unable to meet business continuity needs.

The bank deployed Veeam Backup Essentials integrated with NetApp FAS on a FlexPod infrastructure (NetApp/Cisco), enabling frequent backups and replicas from storage snapshots across ~90 VMs (8 TB) with minimal production impact. The new approach delivered hourly/daily protection, 30 days of recovery points in the space previously used for 14, Instant VM Recovery and granular restores in minutes, and significantly faster regulatory testing, improved storage planning, and better vendor coordination.
