A Veeam Case Study
Avnet, a global electronic components distributor, needed a modern way to protect the extensive business intelligence that supports its product lifecycle services. The company had been using Veritas Backup Exec to tape—a decentralized, time‑consuming process that didn’t align with its cloud initiative and made it difficult to meet two‑week backup SLAs and regulatory requirements such as SOX and CUI.
Avnet replaced Backup Exec with Veeam Availability Suite, centralizing backups to NetApp on‑premises and Azure Blob and simultaneously protecting 50 TB across 180 virtual and physical servers. The solution met SLAs and compliance needs, enabled rapid migration of critical workloads to Azure during political unrest in Hong Kong, provided Veeam DataLabs recoverability features, and delivered about $200,000 in annual backup licensing savings.
