Case Study: Asda achieves rapid recovery and avoids multi-million-pound downtime with Veeam

A Veeam Case Study

Preview of the Asda Case Study

Asda mitigates the risk of multi-million-pounds retail downtime with rapid recovery from Veeam

Asda, a leading UK supermarket chain with 660 stores serving millions of customers weekly, relies on digital systems across its stores, depots and data centers — about 2,000 hosts and 3,000 VMware VMs. As the company separated from Walmart it had to take over data-protection for its entire estate without inflating IT headcount, while meeting strict recovery objectives (RPO < 24 hours, RTO < 30 minutes) to avoid potentially multi-million-pound retail downtime.

Asda deployed Veeam Availability Suite (Veeam Backup & Replication and Veeam ONE) to centralize, automate and scale backups, add immutable copies and enable self-service restores. The solution provides single-pane visibility, rapid recoveries (a tested 16-minute switchover), meets/exceeds RPO/RTO targets and is projected to cut IT helpdesk volumes by over 50%, while supporting cloud-first and scalable rollout.
