Arkema’s European Data Centre Deploys Veeam Backup & Replication

Arkema, a leading global chemical company with a European data centre in Lyon that hosts 75% of the group’s servers, needed a virtualization-specific backup and replication solution to protect hundreds of physical and virtual servers. The challenge was to find a tool with strong VMware integration, high performance, ease of use and cost-effectiveness to replicate large volumes of data between two remote sites and support a high virtualization ratio.

Arkema deployed Veeam Backup & Replication Enterprise to protect about 380 VMware VMs, using cross-site replication, automatic deduplication and a central console to manage backups across both data centres. The solution delivered fast restores and near‑instant failover (validated during a print-server incident), eliminated downtime during backup/restore, reduced bandwidth and storage needs, and provides daily job alerts plus monthly performance and capacity reports via Veeam Reporter; Arkema plans to extend Veeam protection to Hyper‑V.
