Albuquerque Public Schools (APS), the largest district in New Mexico serving roughly 84,000 students across 143 schools, relied on critical systems like Synergy (student information) and Lawson (payroll) that must be continuously available. Their FlexPod environment using NetApp ONTAP and VMware vSphere suffered from a legacy backup solution that didn’t integrate properly, leaving backups unreliable, recovery slow and complex, and the IT team without the vSphere visibility needed to resolve issues proactively.

Working with cStor, APS replaced legacy backup with Veeam Availability Suite integrated with NetApp and vSphere. The switch delivered 100% reliable backups and a 95% improvement in recovery speed (using Instant VM Recovery), full visibility into the virtual environment for proactive management, and protection for VMware Workspace ONE—supporting remote teaching and learning on nearly 50,000 devices while backing 50 TB across 400 VMs.
