Specsavers improves lives through better sight and hearing, supported by data resilience from Veeam

Specsavers, a large optical and hearing care provider in Australia and New Zealand, needed a better way to protect the high volumes of sensitive retinal imaging and other healthcare data generated across its stores. Its manual, tape-based backup process was time-consuming, hard to verify, and increasingly unreliable, while regulatory requirements meant the business had to retain data for 10 years. Specsavers chose Veeam Data Platform to improve data resilience and support business continuity.

Working with Veeam and Champions of Change, Specsavers deployed Veeam Data Platform across its retail stores to replace tape backups with centralized, continuous backups to its data center. Veeam helped Specsavers create encrypted, immutable backups and simplified backup management through a central console. The results included reducing recovery time objectives from multiple days to hours, backing up 3 PB of data at 30 GB per store per day, and saving several hours each week on backup administration.
