Case Study: Hydro Ottawa achieves rapid, automated threat detection and response with Vectra AI Inc.'s Cognito platform

A Vectra AI Case Study

Preview of the Hydro Ottawa Case Study

Electricity distribution to homes and businesses

Hydro Ottawa, the largest electricity distributor in eastern Ontario serving more than 323,000 customers, faced rising threats to its corporate IT and critical infrastructure and needed to close the gap between infection and detection. Their existing log-aggregator approach required time-consuming manual threat hunting and didn’t scale with evolving attack techniques, so they sought an automated, easy-to-integrate solution.

Hydro Ottawa deployed Vectra’s Cognito network detection and response platform, which uses AI, machine learning and behavioral analysis to detect attacker behaviors (including in encrypted traffic), automatically score and prioritize highest-risk threats with the Threat Certainty Index, and integrate with endpoints, SIEM and firewalls. The result: faster detection and response, elimination of manual threat hunting, prevention of attacks spreading to operational systems, improved incident investigations and NIST-aligned security practices with rapid time-to-value.
