A VectorWorks Case Study
SAT Architects, founded in 1996 by Conny Hammar on Finland’s Åland Islands, is an architecture and engineering firm that handles projects from small summer homes to larger commercial and residential buildings. For Project Hammaren—a 23‑apartment building near Mariehamn—the firm needed a design that would appeal to a broad market while offering distinctive architectural features, meeting local aesthetic expectations and sustainability targets, and streamlining complex documentation and collaboration with contractors.
SAT Architects adopted a Vectorworks BIM workflow to take designs from sketch through construction documents in a single environment, generating coordinated plans, sections and façades and exporting DWG/PDF files for collaborators. The approach reduced errors, saved substantial time versus multi‑program workflows, enabled efficient collaboration, secured city approval, and advanced the larger development (four buildings, total value €16–18M), with Hammar even joining the project developer as a partner.
