The Tools You Need to Easily Meet BIM Mandates

bpr architects is a medium-sized, employee‑owned practice in West London specializing in higher education, rail stations and regeneration. Faced with the UK government’s BIM Level 2 mandate and a challenging brief for Middlesex University’s new Ritterman Building—sited on a steep bank and requiring long‑term flexibility and close coordination with engineers—bpr needed a reliable, collaborative 3D workflow to meet regulatory and client-driven performance targets.

bpr moved to an all‑3D workflow using Vectorworks, importing IFC models from consultants, creating a federated model and splitting the project into envelope, core and internal zones to enable parallel work. The approach improved coordination, sped delivery, increased accuracy (replacing manual spreadsheets with integrated worksheets), and produced a adaptable, client‑approved building that has become a BIM Level 2 prototype and a template for the firm’s future projects.
