Revitalizing the Space Where the Waters Meet

McGregor Coxall is a Sydney-based landscape architecture and urban design firm led by Adrian McGregor that specializes in sustainable, regenerative public‑domain projects and also operates The Biocity Studio, an online research portal for comparing city performance. The firm’s challenge was to tackle large, degraded urban assets — notably the 23 km “traffic sewer” Parramatta Road (serving 80,000 vehicles daily) and contaminated sites like Ballast Point — addressing transportation, housing, ecology, public health and long‑term urban resilience at city scale.

The team used Vectorworks Landmark with GIS, full 3D modeling and BIM-style workflows (customized layers/classes, linked plant databases and auto-generated schedules) to produce a single, efficient master file and detailed working drawings that sped delivery and improved accuracy. That approach won the international Parramatta Road competition, delivered award‑winning projects such as Ballast Point Park, launched the Biocity Studio data visualizer to inform policy, and earned national recognition for leadership in sustainable urban design.
