Building Designer Homes on Vienna's Steepest Slopes

Livingpool Architecture & Design, founded in Vienna by Klaus Heissbauer in 2001, is a small studio focused on private housing and experimental CAD-driven design. The firm faced a major challenge when remodeling a neglected 1960s house on one of Vienna’s steepest slopes—an 18 m elevation change—with modern comfort requirements and a tight schedule (four months planning, under 12 months construction).

By using Vectorworks and Renderworks for detailed 3D modeling and a Digital Terrain Model, Livingpool converted the steep site into terraced levels and floor terraces that preserve uninterrupted views, and planned every detail in 3D from carport to stairwood paneling. The accurate visualizations, class-based, cross-platform plans and clearer contractor communication helped complete the remodel in 10 months, control costs, and reproduce the efficient, energy-conscious workflow on other projects (split-level Amstetten and low‑energy Neuhofen homes).
