An Unorthodox Approach to Design in Sweden

Torsten Hild is an award‑winning interior architect and principal of 2Hild in Borås, Sweden, known for teaching and for projects that rethink how spaces support people. He was tasked with high‑profile, unconventional briefs: designing an EU exhibition to showcase Sweden’s “Zero Vision” traffic‑safety program and creating a memorable, humane training center for PO Medica on a limited budget — both requiring solutions that would change perceptions and deliver strong, lasting impressions.

Hild used 3D CAD (Vectorworks) and inventive spatial strategies to deliver immersive, provocative work: a bridge‑driven exhibition through a tall industrial hall with symbolic artifacts and recorded survivor testimonies that reframed traffic safety, and a compact, “space‑station” concept for PO Medica with mixed materials and ergonomic input to soften a high‑tech setting. The PO Medica project earned Hild the Golden Chair, increased the client’s business, even attracted competitor interest to lease the space, and his other interventions (like recycled‑rubber library flooring) improved usability, comfort, and sustainability.
