Acton Ostry Architects - Customer Case Study

Acton Ostry Architects is a 30-person Vancouver firm known for spare West Coast Modernist work on public, institutional and multi-family projects. They were tasked with transforming the University of British Columbia’s dated 1960s Sauder School of Business into a world-class, sustainable and collaborative facility—updating circulation, daylighting and identity while aligning new work with the original concrete structure.

Over a three-phase, $85M renewal the firm wrapped the building in a colored glazed façade, added a light-filled atrium, 5,100 square meters of new space and striking graphic donor and exhibition elements, using Vectorworks to coordinate consultants and produce high-quality drawings. The 30,000 m² renovation supported an anticipated LEED Gold target, turned a once “rabbit-warren” building into an active learning hub and won multiple honors including the Lieutenant Governor Award and a SAB Canadian Green Building Award.
