Centralizing Training for 260 Firefighters Across 15 Stations

Alachua County Fire Rescue, which staffs 260 full‑time career firefighters across 15 stations covering more than 900 square miles outside Gainesville, Florida, needed a way to deliver required fire, EMS and HAZMAT continuing education without pulling crews from stations and creating coverage gaps. Since 2012 the department has used Vector Solutions’ online learning management system (formerly TargetSolutions) to centralize training, meet state and national CEU requirements, and maintain certification compliance.

Vector Solutions’ LMS provided built‑in fire and EMS course libraries, a File Center for custom videos and documents, and Custom Activities for department‑specific pre‑learning, plus credential tracking with automated renewal alerts (90, 60, 30, 15, 5 and 3 days). The platform lets firefighters complete CEUs from any device so stations remain staffed, tracks all certifications and driver’s licenses, powers a Level‑Up credential program tied to payroll for fair, measurable promotions, and preserves cadet training records that have already helped recruit new hires (four cadets applied and several past cadets are now firefighters).
