Utility Company Maximizes Training Impact with Employee Assessments

Utility Company, a major energy provider balancing coal, natural gas, nuclear and growing renewables, shifted from plant-level training to a centralized corporate L&D model and discovered large unknowns in employee competencies amid retirements, rapid hiring, and cross-training needs. To address these gaps they partnered with Vector Solutions and adopted its Learning Management System and competency assessment tools to better identify who needs what training.

Vector Solutions helped the Utility Company build role-specific, customizable assessments (built from field task lists and a Difficulty–Importance–Frequency matrix) and deploy pre- and post-assessments to establish baselines, measure learning gains, and create individualized training plans. The assessment-driven approach unlocked actionable data for more data-driven decisions, enabled cross-training and succession planning, and let the company refine programs and designate subject-matter experts to improve training quality.
