Zype is an API-first SaaS that provides infrastructure for enterprise streaming video, and when it launched Zype Playout — a real-time VoD-to-linear stitching engine — the surge of hundreds of millions of daily requests quickly overwhelmed its cloud backend. The team needed a high-performance frontend caching layer and a way to replace unpredictably expensive, pay-by-request proxy and serverless services (AWS Gateway, Lambda, CloudWatch) to protect backends, cut costs, and preserve low latency.

Zype implemented Varnish Enterprise as a frontend cache and reverse proxy, reimplemented key logic in Varnish Configuration Language with professional support, and retired the AWS services. The change delivered a 10x improvement in server efficiency, an 80% reduction in latency, substantial backend scale-down and cost savings, and a simpler, globally rollable service architecture.
