Västra Götaland Regional Council (VGR) is the public authority responsible for healthcare, transport and other county-wide services in western Sweden. Its digital media team needed to guarantee high availability, fast page response and scalability—especially during political events, health crises or natural disasters when traffic spikes to thousands of requests per second—across a large, complex IT estate.

VGR implemented Varnish Enterprise (including High Availability, Massive Storage Engine, Varnish Controller and Hitch) and engaged Varnish support to tune configuration and backend integrations. The deployment reduced latency, improved uptime and readiness for emergencies, delivered intangible savings in staff and infrastructure, allowed some systems to be scaled down, and continues to evolve as VGR upgrades and adopts additional Varnish features.
