Phiaro - Customer Case Study

Phiaro, an automotive design and concept vehicle company, needed a way to drastically reduce the time and cost of turning 3D renders into full-scale, drivable prototypes. Using Varjo’s XR-3 mixed reality headset, Phiaro set out to move beyond static virtual models and create a more immersive way to evaluate concept cars in realistic driving conditions.

Varjo helped Phiaro build the NGDP1, a stripped-down modular vehicle that combines a physical chassis with virtual car interiors rendered in Unity or Unreal and viewed through the XR-3’s pass-through mixed reality feed. This enabled designers to test ergonomics, cockpit interaction, and in-motion driving experiences far faster than traditional prototyping, while also creating a flexible platform for future design and simulation work. The project drew strong industry interest, with more than 450 visitors from OEM and tier-one suppliers seeing demonstrations in 2020.
