Finnish Air Force - Customer Case Study

The Finnish Air Force needed a more realistic way to train fighter pilots for increasingly complex, high-cognitive-load operations while safely simulating large-scale or dangerous scenarios. Working with Varjo, the air force explored mixed reality and LVC (Live-Virtual-Constructive) training using the Varjo XR-3 headset to better replicate live flying conditions and cockpit tasks.

Varjo helped enable a pioneering LVC training setup that combines live Hawk aircraft, physical simulators, computer modeling, and mixed reality, allowing pilots in the air and on the ground to train in the same scenario. The solution also added eye-tracking and performance analytics for monitoring stress and cognitive load during exercises, improving debriefing and training insight. The Finnish Air Force reported the early results as very positive and is now considering broader use of Varjo’s XR technology in future training scenarios.
