Knox City Council speeds stormwater inspections with VAPAR, reporting 3,400 defects across 20 km

The customer, Knox City Council, faced the challenge of efficiently inspecting and reporting on its stormwater assets as part of a larger road resurfacing project. The council needed to quickly assess asset conditions to prioritize rehabilitation and renewal, limiting disruption from rain events. Vendor VAPAR was engaged with its AI-powered cloud platform to automate the condition assessment from pipe CCTV footage.

VAPAR's solution provided a cloud platform for uploading inspection footage and used machine learning to automate defect identification. This allowed for rapid reporting and provided the council with detailed data, including repair recommendations. As a result, Veolia, working for the council, completed 897 inspections over 20 km of assets, reporting 3400 defects. VAPAR enabled the identification of 179 high-priority structural grade assets and led to 260 assets being allocated to a repair plan, significantly streamlining the asset management process.
