Case Study: Western Water achieves $2M capital works savings with VAPAR

How Western Water combined A.I. with historical CCTV data to reduce risk and inform future capital works programs for their wastewater network

Western Water, now part of Greater Western Water, worked with VAPAR to better assess risk across nearly 40 km of inspected wastewater pipes. Although CCTV inspections had been completed over many years, the available data made it hard to quantify risk and prioritize rehabilitation work with confidence.

VAPAR used its AI-powered VAPAR.Solutions platform, along with advanced auditing and a renewal recommendation module, to process about 38,000 m of pipe footage and identify more than 15,000 features and defects. After aligning the results with Western Water’s risk matrix, VAPAR helped create risk cohorts and refine the capital works program, reducing the initial priority estimate by about $2M while improving future budget and rehabilitation planning.
