A VAPAR Case Study
City of Ryde, a Sydney municipal council serving more than 130,000 residents and managing around 250 km of stormwater infrastructure, needed a better way to assess pipe condition from CCTV inspections. Its existing process relied on external contractors and a lot of manual review, which limited how much of the network could be inspected each year and made it harder to support planning and outage prevention. VAPAR’s AI-powered cloud platform was used to automate condition assessment from pipe CCTV footage.
VAPAR implemented an AI-based automated CCTV review process for City of Ryde, with outputs customized for the council’s financial and asset planning needs and integrated into its Assetic stormwater asset management system. The project reviewed about 15,000 m of stormwater pipe footage, identified and digitized more than 6,000 features, and eliminated 400 hours of manual CCTV review work, while auditing 100% of captured footage for accuracy. City of Ryde was able to inspect over 15 km of network in 6 months, compared with 5 km per year previously, improving decision-making for renewal programs and capital works.
