City West Water improves CCTV review quality with VAPAR across 235 files

City West Water, one of three major water utilities servicing the Melbourne metropolitan area, faced challenges with the manual and variable process of grading the condition of its extensive sewer pipe network from CCTV footage. This lack of standardization impacted the utility's predictive analytics and maintenance planning. To address this, City West Water engaged VAPAR to explore an AI-powered solution for automated condition assessment.

VAPAR implemented a pilot project, using its AI platform to automatically review 235 CCTV files representing approximately 14 km of pipe infrastructure. The project identified nearly 5,000 features with a comparable accuracy rate to traditional methods and delivered the desired standardized condition scoring. The success of the pilot proved VAPAR's platform could significantly improve data quality and asset management processes for the utility.
