Ballina Shire Council identifies 396 infiltration issues across 10 km of pipeline with VAPAR

Ballina Shire Council, located on the coast of New South Wales, faced significant challenges from sea water infiltration into its wastewater system. This issue increased salinity, disrupted treatment processes, and accelerated infrastructure corrosion. To accurately identify the sources and extent of this infiltration, the council partnered with VAPAR and utilized its AI-powered cloud platform for automated pipe condition assessment.

VAPAR's solution involved processing over 10 kilometers of CCTV footage through its AI platform. This analysis identified more than 3,950 pipe features and pinpointed 396 specific instances of infiltration across 1.4 kilometers of pipeline. These results enabled the council to prioritize and plan targeted relining works, significantly improving the resilience of its wastewater network and informing a more effective, data-driven rehabilitation strategy.
