A Valtech Case Study
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) faced administrative complexities and inefficiencies in its process for granting conservation subsidies to farmers and ranchers. To reduce time and waste, the USDA engaged vendor Valtech to lead a rapid agile UX design process for a new enterprise web application that needed to accommodate over 2,500 regulatory and functional requirements while being extremely intuitive for its users.
Valtech conducted user research in the field, which led to the key insight of using maps as the focal point of the new application's interface, a design that broke initial assumptions. Acting as a consultant and agile coach to a large team of USDA developers, Valtech organized cross-functional teams to balance user needs with development challenges. The solution distilled a large number of stakeholder needs into an easy-to-use application that met all business requirements, achieving the USDA's goal of creating a more user-friendly process.
