A Valtech Case Study
Valtech partnered with Transport for London (TfL) to address a costly and disruptive operational challenge. The London Underground's process for testing train brakes required removing trains from service, causing passenger delays and significant engineering costs, especially when many trains were found to be fault-free.
Valtech developed Decelerator, a pioneering iPad app that uses the device's built-in sensors to test brakes accurately while a train remains in service. This solution was developed from proof of concept to production in six weeks. In a pilot, it aimed to reduce unnecessary train removals by 75%, projecting savings of £300,000 on three lines alone, with potential for annual savings of millions across the entire network.
