AO Foundation revives its surgery reference site with Valtech and keeps the world’s largest medical repository live

Valtech partnered with AO Foundation to address key challenges with their flagship Surgery Reference website. The site, the world's largest surgery reference repository, contained critical medical information but suffered from an outdated user interface and graphics. Furthermore, its content management system was not integrated with the Sitecore CMS used for AO's other sites, and it lacked a crucial feature: allowing surgeon-authors to import content directly from Microsoft Word documents.

The solution involved a multidisciplinary Valtech team migrating the site to Sitecore and delivering a comprehensive digital upgrade. Valtech developed a custom tool enabling direct content import from Word into Sitecore, preserving the authors' preferred workflow. They also implemented an AI-powered search and revamped AO's marketing strategy, including new social media and email templates. The results provided AO Foundation with a modernized, fully integrated platform that maintained ease of use for content creators while improving access and discovery for its global surgical audience.
