MTN Group had equipped its agents with a mobile app to photograph customers’ identity documents (national IDs, passports, driver’s licenses) before SIM activation, resulting in seven million ID images stored in its database but with no way to extract or use card data (card number, name, etc.) digitally. MTN Group engaged Valomnia to address this data-access challenge.
Valomnia deployed Valomnia OCR, exposed via a REST API, to process and extract text and MRZ data from the images; the solution scanned more than three million pictures in less than 30 days and converted printed fields (card numbers, names, etc.) into digitally usable data for MTN Group.
